Until That Day
Until that day,
I was a depressed boy—
An anxious boy—
Beaten down by my own mind
Wondering what it was like to feel
Until that day,
I believed in nothing
I believed in no one
I didn’t believe in my own self
My empty thoughts were just that
Until that day,
I had felt nothing—
Nothing had felt me
It took a lot to fake the smile
Trust me when I say I tried
Until that day,
I wanted to know happiness—
I wanted to know love—
Even if it meant feeling pain
I wanted to feel something
On that day,
My heart started to soften—
My eyes started to open
I witnessed the sunflowers--
One in particular
On that day,
The sunflower taught me
It gave me hope
We had so much in common
It helped me understand
On that day,
The sunflower showed me how—
How to let go of my worries—
And to look forward—
To the sunshine of the next day
