The Light in the Distance

The beacon of light that glimmers in the distance,
It was put there so many years ago.
Through a thousand storms it has survived,
Still shining bright, yet while never growing old.
Protecting those that have sailed these shores,
Guiding them boldly, back safe to their homes.

And while the beacon of light has been tested and tried,
A fixture it still stands watching stories unfold.
For the ships that sail here aren’t ships alone,
They are vessels of life all bound with a soul.
When dark clouds start to gather and storms doth arrive,
It safeguards your travel so uncover the bold.

At certain times the light blazes brighter,
A warmer touch on the skin to behold.
And for those whom it cares deeper,
The sky will take on a more luminous glow.
On evenings like these when the air fills with a fog,
Worry is stolen and replaced with a gold.

Some often wonder if each day it could be gone,
Asking each night for the beacon to hold on.
When year after year the light has shined strong,
Will the day come, when it no longer known.
But this beam is different and long shall it last,
Because inside of my heart, the power it holds.

When I passed away, as it’s been quite a while now,
The beacon grew resilient as I lent it my soul.
I watch down upon it each evening with pride,
As it takes on a mind and spirit of its own.
So sail away from the coast and cast away doubt,
The light will lead you back, as far as you go.
