The Witness
The cold rain on my shoulders
A bizarre evening in store
As I peer in through the curtains
I’m stunned to my core
She’s standing there helpless
Oh- a sight to be seen
I gaze at her pure beauty
Her dilemma is not only me
Standing in the shadows
My desolate heart becomes unglued
As he lurks up from behind her
There’s a lot now to prove
Frozen in my own footsteps
Should I choose to do nothing
As his rope bridles her pale neck
I’m reminded of something
It was about thirty years ago
I was just a young fellow
Awaken from a bloodcurdling nightmare
In the midst of my pillows
I had killed my best friend
During the middle of my dreams
My crazed mind couldn’t take it
I woke before the screams
It’s here I stand now
I need to cease this at once
To stop this murderous monster
And all that he’s done
Without reason I hesitate
While I continue to stare
He finishes his achievement
Her soul no longer there
Asking myself now
You fool, why didn’t you intervene
I guess my only true answer
What actually happens, after the screams
